860 East 147 Street, Bronx, NY 10455 Hotel 44,300 SF Unbuilt
Planned for a compact South Bronx corner, this hotel turns a tight site into a vertical lantern: a matte-white rainscreen slips around three sculpted towers, while deep charcoal spandrels at the base ground the building against the neighborhood’s masonry churches and row houses. A central glass bay cleaves the façade from ground to roof, stacking “picture-frame” windows that capture shifting sky reflections by day and reveal a checkerboard of warm rooms after dusk. Above, a castellated crown hides mechanicals behind staggered parapets, carving pocket terraces that will be planted with river birch and ornamental grasses to soften the skyline. At street level, a landscaped podium and generous stoop pull the public realm up to the lobby, giving guests an elevated porch that overlooks 147th Street’s evolving arts corridor.
